I told my mommy I wanted to stay
Overnight at Grandma's house tonight.
I really love my Grandma
She always treats me right!

Mommy asked if I was sure
That I would be ok
She asked me several times
If I was sure I wanted to stay.

I was so very happy
To stay with my dear grammy
And have her for my self all night
And I was just fine until
Grandma turned out the light....

Oh, I thought of my mommy
Who usually tucks me in
Kisses my forehead
And pulls the covers up to my chin...

I thought about my daddy
Who comes in and gives me a hug
Or laughs at me when I'm singing
Rubber Ducky in my tub...

And all of a sudden
My chin began to waver
And the excitement of overnight
Had suddenly lost its flavor.

Grandma came in and hugged me tight
After she turned on the light
And asked me if I was ill
And my forehead she did feel.

I cried and sobbed and tried to say
That I had really loved the day
But something just wasn't right
To be away from home at night!
