I am a newly happily retired card
carrying member of AARP and proud of it! I recently retired and am rushing
headlong into my "real life" outside of the 9-14 hour workday that today's
world demands.
I have been writing poetry for as long as I can remember. I won my first
poetry contest when I was about 9 years old
and my poem was in the local newspaper...don't remember what was on the
"other" page of our little paper....My mom
was the one who encouraged me to write. She was really very good at poetry
but just didn't have the time to write,
while my grandmother tutored me in what was called "elocution" in those
days. Later on I would take speech and drama in
high school. I was more into the speech part than the drama.
A few years ago a friend and I co-wrote and produced a children's musical
for our local church and did another collage of
poetry and songs which was televised by our local cable company. Everyone
should have a moment that they enjoy as much as
I enjoyed those!
I have a wonderful husband of 40 years and a wonderful grown up
daughter who probably would rather than I didn't mention her age...so
I won't. I also have two adorable spoiled fur babies who keep me entertained
and feeling adored! Gus is a smart but stubborn poodle and Cozy
is a spoiled, pampered and petite Chihuahua/Shin Tzu mixture who believes
the world was created to revolve around her.
These are the wonderful things in my newly retired world that make up my
poetry and inspire me. Read a few and see if they make you smile
as big as I smiled when I wrote them ... or in some cases if they bring you
to tears just as I was in tears when I wrote them....
